Rilla Mill – 4.5 miles
Not an area of Cornwall that I know at all so I left the dogs behind. Because Harry is becoming increasingly unsteady I don’t take him on walks I don’t know. It’s unfair on him and in a group walk it could spoil the walk for others as well, especially as he begins to slow down.
There were five of us walking today including a new member. Member seems horribly formal, like we have badges or something. It’s more along the lines of thingy wants to join us, and as we are always more the merrier, we never say no.
None of us knew this walk so we traipsed off following the iWalk app directions and regularly chatted over the top of an instruction and had to back track a bit. Rilla Mill is a lovely figure eight walk with lots of stiles which were an issue for some of the dogs. Lifting the little one was easy, lifting the bigger dog required all hands on deck. Or to be more accurate, on dog.
The walk had lots of ups and downs and several paths through livestock. This included a particularly territorial horse but Debbie was having none of that and gave it a stern talking to. Eventually, it had a word with itself and headed back to the others and we headed on our way to a picnic break. In another field, obviously.
It was a pretty enough walk and the parts alongside the river were pretty spectacular. Found a perfect beach to swim off, and a personal highlight was a swing bridge that we all bounced along and then bounced back as it wasn’t actually on the route.
Top notch company, great picnic and if I lived closer I’d come back for a swim but other than that not one I’d repeat.
